Before and After’s are one of your most powerful social media marketing tools in the skincare industry. It helps to showcase your salon’s work, build client trust, and leads to more bookings.

How to Manage Client Photos

The most challenging aspect of acquiring before and after photos is maintaining a proper system to obtain them, file them and create a post to share on social media platforms such as Instagram. Here are some tips:

1) Get Client Consent

It is important to ensure your clients acknowledge and are agreeing to having their before and afters posted to social media.

You can have a photo release form signed for marketing purposes.

If you are having difficulties getting clients to agree, try offering them an incentive for allowing you to use their photos.

2) How to Take Before and After Photos

For successful before and afters, it is important that the camera positioning and lighting is the same, as this can alter the photo dramatically. Try using a ring light as this will help even out the lighting.

3) Have a Filing System for your Before and After Images

Our camera rolls can get pretty crowded, so it is important to have a proper area where you keep all your client before and after photos.

If you have a client management software that allows you to upload photos, try utilising it. Just make sure you are properly labelling what treatment the client is receiving and when it was performed.

If you don’t have a client management system, try creating albums on your phone to organise or use a cloud storage system like Google Drive or Dropbox to file away and organise your client photos.

4) Create a Before and After Post

Placing two photos side by side, doesn’t need to be difficult. There are many apps and softwares available to help create Instagram posts easily.

Here are some examples:

Canva

You can create a template that suits your brand or choose from their hundreds of pre-existing templates, and reuse it for all your before and after photo’s.

PRO TIP:

Try to have your before and afters follow a similar template and design, so that when it appears on potential client’s social media, it creates brand recognition. Consistency is key!
